After a tumultuous past few years in the classroom, it’s time for the J-factor – bringing joy into the learning process. Discovery Education’s flagship Science Techbook, part of a complete science program, offers courses for grades K-12. See how our Science Techbook helps to inspire students and support your school’s science curriculum. Science Techbook supports teachers as they guide their students through 3D learning with strategies and tools embedded at point-of-use and in the learning platform.

Our dynamic K-12 learning platform provides compelling collections of science-themed content, ready-to-use activities, assessment and teaching tools, and professional learning to help educators engage all students, in and out of the classroom. The phenomena and content used in Science Techbook is provided through our dynamic K-12 learning platform. Vetted by curriculum experts and differentiated by grade level, it mirrors the interests of students and helps them make relevant, lasting connections between science, the classroom, and their everyday lives. The goal of scientific literacy includes inquiry, history and nature of science, personal and social perspectives of science, science, and technology, in addition to the science domains of life science, physical science, and earth and space science. Programs defined according to these standards should be developmentally appropriate, interesting, and relevant to students’ lives. Keith grew up in Jupiter, Florida where he spent most of his time exploring the ecosystems in and around the Everglades.

These are the kinds of skills that students develop in science, technology, engineering, and math, including computer science—disciplines collectively known as STEM/CS. We must also make sure that, no matter where children live, they have access to quality learning environments. A child’s zip code should not determine their STEM literacy and educational options. Many critics of standards-based education reform and reform mathematics are also critical of the emphasis of the standards on process and inquiry-based science rather than learning of facts. Science assessments such as WASL in Washington state contain very little factual content, and most assessment is based on the ability of students as young as the fifth grade to construct and interpret science experiments. By contrast, previous generations of high school and even college students were only expected to participate in, rather than design science experiments from scratch, complete with a list of materials.
